Costume and Makeup Design
Written by William Shakespeare, Directed and Adapted by David Daniel
David Daniel’s Midsummer begins in stark all-white Athens that evokes a storybook royal court, blank and devoid of color. The Mechanicals inhabit the same storybook 18th c. period, but with vivid earth tones and dynamic textures that reflect their heightened theatricality. Lastly, we meet the Faerie world, which emerges from the grey barn board with a palette of vivid earth tones that watercolor blend into the grey of the Up the Hill stage.
