Rebecca Martinez charged our all-trans team with bringing a fresh light to this one-woman tour-de-force by not cloaking Charlotte in all black with a stark surround of disparate props. Instead, we embraced Charlotte’s blossoming humanity, her full range of color, and the result was the richest, most complex and truly authentic portrayal of Charlotte’s story to date. Mason changed in and out of five outfits on stage, in view of the audience, during monologues. Choreographed perfectly, these changes gave the play a vulnerable, intimate, and electrical charge.
